Travel Info

Bertinoro is a hilltop town about 6 km southeast of Forlimpopoli and a short distance off the ancient Via Emilia (SS9).

By plane

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ):

The closest major airport is Bologna Guglielmo Marconi (BLQ), about 80 km away. A taxi from Bologna to Bertinoro typically takes about 90 minutes and costs around 140 €, including highway tolls, but this can be an affordable option if shared by 3-4 people. You can get more specific details and book a ride by contacting the official taxi service CoTaBo Taxi at +39 051 372727 or by using their app or website (useful information on Bologna taxis can be found here).

Bologna Airport has an automated shuttle to Bologna Centrale train station, the Marconi Express, running roughly every 15 minutes and taking about 7 minutes. Just follow the directions in the airport. You can tap in and out using a contactless card or NFC device (Apple Pay, etc.) at the station gates, or buy tickets via vending machines, the app, or official website. Make sure to use the same card or payment device for both entry and exit.

From Bologna Centrale, frequent trains connect to Forlì.

Other flying options / airports:

Rimini Airport (RMN) is 40 km from Bertinoro and serves selected European routes.
Milan Malpensa (MXP): roughly 3.5 hours away, with direct train links to Forlì.
Rome airports: about 4 hours away; travel requires a change at Bologna.

By train

Numerous trains run between Bologna and Forlì, the trip taking 30-45 minutes depending on the train type. Travel along the Bologna–Rimini line and get off at Forlì. Taxis normally wait outside the station; if no taxis are available, call +39 0543 31111 or use a taxi app (more info below). Alternatively, a bus service runs from Forlì to Bertinoro, but schedules may be limited, and it is unlikely that this route operates on Sundays. Bus timetables can be found here.

Note: When coming by train from Bologna, make sure to get off at Forlì station and not Forlimpopoli. Although Forlimpopoli is closer to Bertinoro, continuing your journey from there is much more difficult.

Tickets can be purchased at stations, online, or via Trenitalia’s official website and mobile app.

Additional taxi options

In addition to regular taxis, travelers arriving in Forlì can use the itTaxi app. itTaxi is one of Italy’s two largest taxi apps and might be an easier way to get a taxi in Forlì. Please note that the service apparently does not operate in Forlimpopoli. More information is available at https://ittaxi.it/en/home-en/.

By bus from Forlì to Bertinoro

From Forlì Bus Point (near the train station), take line 92 to Forlimpopoli. From there, change to line 121 toward Bertinoro. Note again that it is unlikely for this to be an option for Sunday.

Current timetables are available at: https://www.startromagna.it/en/timetable-and-services/timetables-and-routes/

By car

From Bologna: follow the A14 motorway south and exit at Forlì, then follow signs to Cesena – Forlimpopoli – Bertinoro.

From Rimini: take the A14 northbound and exit at Cesena Nord. Continue on the E45 toward Rome until the Cesena Ovest exit, then join the SS9 (Via Emilia) toward Forlì – Bologna. Follow local signs to Bertinoro.
